RNZ Ballet appoints new General Manager
The Royal New Zealand Ballet has appointed Amanda Skoog as its new General Manager.
Amanda left New Zealand as a teenager to pursue a career as a classical ballet dancer, touring Europe extensively before
accepting a position with English National Ballet where she met her husband Matz - the Artistic Director of the Royal
New Zealand Ballet from 1996 to 2001.
Amanda has worked in arts administration for the past 15 years. She was an education officer with English National
Ballet, and was the Development Manager at London’s Design Museum, and then the Assistant Director at Central School of
Ballet with the late Christopher Gable
She has a post-graduate Diploma in Arts Administration from City University, London. In 1996 Amanda returned to New
Zealand when her husband became the Artistic Director of the RNZB, and was appointed Executive Director of Dance
Aotearoa New Zealand.
She was also a member of the Creative New Zealand Dance assessment panel. Returning to the UK five years ago, Amanda
established the web-based company toi toi, gorgeous objects from New Zealand, selling New Zealand applied arts, and
currently is the Visitor Services Manager at the new Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.
“I am honoured and thrilled to be offered the position of General Manager for the Royal New Zealand Ballet. I never
dreamt that such an opportunity would come my way. I only hope I can do the job justice and successfully build on the
many achievements of my predecessor, Sue Paterson,” says Amanda.
“The Royal New Zealand Ballet is delighted to have attracted Amanda back to New Zealand and we are confident she will
compliment the continued growth of the company,” says John Maasland, Chairman of the RNZB Board.
