As the sense of Global community increases, New Zealanders are becoming more prominent and confident on the world stage.
WELLA’S spectacular Trend Vision photographic competition gives New Zealand stylists the opportunity to step up and
compete on an international platform.
WELLA internationally, works with trend agencies to research and workshop forthcoming trends. These mega-trends which
are globally relevant are then transformed into individual Wella hair and fashion trends. Twice a year a Trend Vision
workshop is held, where Wella stylists from around the world are invited to transform the trends into visionary hair
creations. These are the inspiration for the International WELLA Trend Vision photographic competition.
In New Zealand, Hairdressers from throughout the country competed for this coveted title, being asked to interpret the
2006 trends that reflect Techno Nature, Real Daydream, Gothic Luxury and World Fusion. Judged on total look, stylists
had to show an understanding of the chosen trend, innovation and skill in hair colour work and styling; and mastery in
fashion, accessorizing and staging.

Kathy Kane, TONI & GUY, Newmarket.
Divided into two sections – Young Visionary (under 30) and Master Visionary (over 30) - this year’s winners both come
from Auckland with finalists representing regions the length of the country. Lisa Wang from VADA, took out Young
Visionary, while Kathy Kane from TONI & GUY, Newmarket won the masters division.
Lisa’s win will thrust her onto the world stage where New Zealand proved itself the best of the best last year. She will
travel to Milan in November to compete at the International Trend Vision Award 06 final.
Runner up, also from VADA is Holly Dalziel. Highly commended in the Young Visionary section are last years winner David
Playle from BUOY in Wellington, and Jessie Sowman, from Sutherland Todd, Christchurch.
Kathy Kane wins a trip for two to New York, including a seminar at the WELLA Studio, New York. And as well as winning,
Kathy’s second entry receives a Highly Commended in the Masters section. Runner-up is awarded to Suzanne Morley from
Hype Hair Design in Auckland. Highly Commended is also awarded to Jock Robson from Dharma in Auckland.
The judges- TVNZ Style Director, Trudi Brewer; Damon Kidd, WELLA Regional Professional Services Manager Australasia;
Stacey Hosking, WELLA National technical Manager and Michael Hooker, International Model Placement Manager, were all
very excited to see the calibre of young hairdressers coming through and noted: “The winners show a clear and full
understanding of the trends. They demonstrate research and development of the trend, and have thought into the future,
not just the here and now. Their interpretation takes the trend one step further.”
The judges also appreciated the investment in photography, styling and model selection to create to the total trend.
