Running Legless National Tour 2006
The Danny McCrum Band have just arrived back from their nationwide ‘Running Legless Tour’. The band performed across the length of New Zealand, from Kerikeri to Invercargill, traveling in a giant six-birth campervan which was very kindly supplied by Kiwi Auto Homes. In addition to the standard shows, they gave a fiery performance live on The Good Morning Show (TV1) and played twice on board The Interislander Ferry, who were also kind enough to sponsor the tour by getting the band across the Cook Strait and back.
“The tour was a big success and it simply wouldn’t have been possible without all of the generous support we received.” said Danny McCrum. “The band worked really hard and we seemed to be received well, especially in the South Island. Our craziest and busiest gig was at the Copper Bock in Blenheim. Also, making ends meet on an independent New Zealand tour is almost unheard of, so the fact that we arrived home having broken even is fantastic.”
The Danny McCrum Band traveled thousands of kilometers and faced all of the expected trials and tribulations of a band on the road in tight living conditions with extreme whether and a hectic schedule. But they made it back in one piece and with many great shows under their belts. Danny reflects “It was wild and so many people told me I was crazy to even attempt this tour, but what’s life without a challenge?! Besides, you don’t get anywhere by just sitting at home thinking about what you would like to do”
The band includes Danny McCrum and bassist Matt Harvey who were two of the founding members of Auckland band SPINNER. SPINNER performed together for six years and worked with some impressive names including Jimmy Barnes, John Mayer, Tommy Emmanuel, Nora Jones, Katie Melua, Hello Sailor, and many more. They recently changed their branding and recruited jazz/funk drummer Steve Harvie whose fresh style and energy has been a welcome contribution to the new bands sound.

Official Biography
DANNY McCRUM BAND Biography 2006
Danny McCrum has been writing and performing for almost fifteen years in a variety of bands and genres. During his teenage years he spent his time in recording studios and performing all over New Zealand and in the year 2000, at the age of twenty, he co founded Auckland band SPINNER.
SPINNER soon became known as one of New Zealand's tightest and most innovative bands. Their performances were vibrant and energetic and this was obvious at the Saint James Theatre in 2002 when SPINNER opened for John Mayer. After a very well received set the band finished their show to an encore, which is quite unusual for a support act.
Their most successful single was ‘Talking to the Moon’ which received airplay on radio, television and even an Air New Zealand promotional video. As well as countless radio and television appearances, SPINNER topped national competitions and performed regularly in many venues and events including the Aotea Centre, St James Theatre, local pubs, festivals, corporate functions and many more.
After six years it was time for a change, so Danny McCrum, SPINNER’s bassist Matt Harvey, and new drummer Steve Harvie put together the DANNY McCRUM BAND. The new band maintains the integrity and standards of SPINNER, but has a fresh approach, a new sound and a refined show. Their set showcases Danny McCrum’s writing alongside some reworked classics, including songs by artists like Ray Charles, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac and more.
The new bands sound is somewhere between rock, funk, contemporary, blues and jazz and although it’s hard to categorize them, you can expect top musicianship, energetic performances and great songs!
Some of the people Danny McCrum has worked with over the years include Jimmy Barnes, John Mayer, Tommy Emmanuel, Nora Jones, Katie Melua, Hello Sailor, Goodshirt, and Tadpole. He has become well respected for his intelligent writing, his memorable melodies, his impacting guitar playing (acoustic and electric) and his soulful performances.
