Top Young Poets to be Announced
On Tuesday ten secondary school students from throughout New Zealand will be announced as the finalists of the Bell Gull National Schools Poetry Award, organised by Victoria University’s International Institute of Modern Letters.
Bell Gully and the International Institute of Modern Letters invite you to join us for the announcement of this year’s shortlist for the Bell Gully National Schools Poetry Award 2006, designed to celebrate the talent of some of the country’s finest young poets.
New Zealand writers, Bill Manhire, Elizabeth Knox and Hinemoana Baker will unveil the poems that have won ten secondary school students a trip to Wellington for a masterclass with top New Zealand poets at the International Institute of Modern Letters.
This year’s competition attracted 180 entries from Year 12 and Year 13 students throughout New Zealand. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Wellington on 18 August which the finalists will be present at.
