Get Locked Into A New Series Of Music Show Lips!
The freshest Kiwi sounds in Aotearoa are back on Māori Television with the premiere of a new season of LIPS (Locked Into
Pacific Sounds) on Tuesday July 11 2006.
Presenter Te Awanui Reeder from chart-topping band Nesian Mystik is joined by new face Helen Crown to showcase and
celebrate the nation’s best songs and videos.
“I’m stoked to get this chance to host such a talent-driven show,” says Helen, whose face is probably most recognisable
from the Air New Zealand TV commercial, as guitarist for The Zephyrs. “I’ve been lucky to work in a few facets of TV and
music, and this show is a combo of all the fun parts!”
Awa, as he is known to his friends and whanau, is also rapt to be back on the show he loves. He is currently fitting in
filming LIPS while touring around the country with Nesian Mystik, following the release of their new album.
“It’s great to be back, and this time, LIPS has expanded its scope to include all New Zealand music because we’re all
part of the Pacific and influenced by its sounds,” he says. “A TV music show has never been more locked into Pacific
sound! If you love music, you can’t miss LIPS!”
LIPS kicks off with the multi-talented Chong-Nee, a writer/producer who has collaborated with Che Fu, Dei Hamo and other
top local musicians. The show features three Chong-Nee video clips and the chance to win a signed copy of his debut
album Just Getting By On Love.
There are also regular segments, including a short interview with a featured artist each week, talking about the
inspiration and writing behind one of their own songs; up-to-date music news; behind-the-scenes footage at the making of
music videos; a review of new albums, singles, radio shows, magazines and anything related to music; and live
performances with Kiwi musicians.
The executive producer of LIPS is Teremoana Rapley, of Moana and the Moa Hunters fame.
“The new series of LIPS is a step towards embracing our unique Pacific voice,” says producer Teremoana Rapley. “It’s
about time we celebrated what we have to offer the world musically. Good music speaks for itself.” Teremoana knows what
she is talking about, having been in music television for over a decade as both presenter and director, as well as a key
figure in the music industry for more than 18 years.
