NZ Idol Hopefuls Line Up
New judges, new prizes and a pool of talented kiwis, NZ Idol is back on Sunday 16 July at 7.30pm on TV2, for a third
season that is bigger, better and more controversial than ever.
In the opening episode our new judging panel will be introduced: Iain Stables, Megan Alatini and Frankie Stevens bring a
creative edge to the audition process. And just who is this year’s nasty judge? It might not be who you expect….
Newcomer Megan Alatini says the judges all have very different opinions about the talent.
“We have had plenty of disagreements as we all have very different opinions about the talent and their performances,”
says Alatini “but we all have a real determination to find New Zealand’s best Idol.”
“Even contestants are feistier this year” says Alatini. “One disgruntled Idol wannabe after hearing a firm ’no‘ from
Stables in his audition started screaming ‘Can you even see me through those eyebrows?’ We love the confrontation, this
is what Idol’s all about!”
The Auckland auditions introduce another round of embarrassing, bizarre, endearing and just plain weird moments. We see
Idols practising their songs in the bathroom, hyping themselves up in mirrors and donning strange costumes - all in an
attempt to impress the judges.
Stables says one of his favourite auditions in Auckland was Charles, a death metal fanatic.
“Charles turned up wearing bat wings and a bad suit. He had a very unique singing ability! His screaming was slightly
frightening but whilst we all said no to the next stage - Megan did want to get Charles’ telephone number so he could
perform at her daughter’s Halloween party.” laughs Stables.
Tonight, it’s make or break time for these first contestants as they receive the judges’ verdict. Some will be given the
chance to return for another shot and some will be sent home disappointed – including the judges who expected more from
the Auckland auditionees.
