Dark Secret Uncovered on Kai Korero Final
A dark family secret is revealed on the final of outrageous comedy show KAI KORERO next week when Tash goes researching
into her Pakeha whakapapa (Tuesday July 4 at 9.30 PM).
Uncovering a history of lies and deceit, Tash discovers that all is not what it seems. Her Pakeha grandmother Muriel,
who is always declaring that the white way is the right way, is actually hiding a very “dark” secret.
KAI KORERO is a multi-cultural sitcom about two families who meet each Sunday for food, whanau and funny moments. The
popular six-part series KAI KORERO has brought together top acting talents over the past five episodes including George
Henare (Ngati Porou), Annie Whittle, Vanessa Rare (Ngati Pukenga, Ngati Porou, Ngati Maru) and Geoff Dolan.
Sports scientist Ken Spalding (Dolan) and his physiotherapist wife Charlotte Rata (Rare) have two children – handsome
budding league player Humphrey (Tainui Tukiwaho) and pro-Maori university student Ma (Kura Forrester). They also share
their urban home with Pa Wiremu (Henare), Charlotte’s staunch Ngati Porou father, while posh Muriel Spalding (Whittle)
is Ken’s mother.
In this hilarious final, Tash’s spunky brother Humphrey has a guest over for dinner that everyone happily assumes is his
girlfriend. But when they meet the very eccentric Farrah Fortune (played by Glynnis Paraha) they’re all biting at the
bit to get rid of her.
Made by Auckland-based Front of the Box Productions, KAI KORERO is written by Kath Akuhata-Brown, with storylines from
comedian Pio Terei.
Executive producer Claudette Hauiti says everyone involved with the project enjoyed the experience immensely,
particularly the humorous work environment.
“A Kaikorero is a person who speaks on behalf of his or her people and in this instance, our cast have represented
through the medium of comedy the many voices of Maori,” says Ms Hauiti.
The show, in Maori and English, is filmed before a live studio audience two days before it airs to keep it fresh and
up-to-date. With its mix of ages and cultures, Hauiti says KAI KORERO is a comedy with something for everyone.
