RICHES FROM THE DEEP
Tuesday June 20 at 8.30 PM
Riches from the Deep shows how access to fish and seafood has influenced civilizations culturally and environmentally. Filmed in the South Pacific, Africa, Asia, the US and South America, Riches from the Deep also examines the enormous natural resources found in lakes, rivers and the ocean.
THE YEAR OF THE HUNTER
Tuesday June 27 at 8.30 PM
A documentary about Robert Flaherty's 1922 film “Nanook of the North” and the Inuit who starred in the film. After years as an explorer in Canada’s North, Robert Flaherty undertook the mission of chronicling the life of Inuit hunter Nanook near Port Harrison, on the eastern shore of Hudson’s Bay.
THE HABITS OF NEW NORCIA
Tuesday July 4 at 8.30 PM
The Benedictine Monastery of New Norcia, the only monastic town in Australia, was the New Norcia Mission until 1973 - home to generations of Aboriginal children. Several of the children, now adults aged from 34 to 84, return to the mission to recount their traumatic experiences.
ESCAPE FROM TIBET
Tuesday July 11 at 8.30 PM
In the Himalayan snow beneath Mt Everest, a group of Tibetans face frostbite, starvation and death in their bid to escape Chinese occupation of their country. Filmed in India, Nepal and Tibet, the group is determined to reach freedom in India and visit the Dalai Lama.
THE GREAT DANCE: A HUNTER’S STORY
Tuesday July 18 at 8.30 PM
African hunter Ngate lives in the Kalahari Desert where his ancestors have lived for thousands of years. Born to hunt, he and his fellow tribesmen have skills which rely on an acute sixth sense, tenacity and endurance.
