Stylists go head to head!
WELLA promotes emerging talent
- 23 fabulous regional winners named
- Stellar* and Mikey Havoc named for grand finale!
YOUNG stylists from throughout New Zealand will compete for crowning glory in the prestigious final of the 2006 Wella Young Professional Stylist competition this week.
Regional winners in the competition designed to recognise excellence and flair in young stylists are from Auckland, Whangarei, Hamilton, Tauranga, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Wellington and Palmerston North (see details of regional winners below).
These finalists from 12 regions will go head to head to compete for the crown of Wella Young Professional Stylist of the Year, at a star-spangled evening at Auckland's ASB Showgrounds on Saturday night. Fashion conscious celebrities will be among the crowd, entertained by Stellar*, DJ Mikey Havoc and MC Jason Reeves.

WELLA YPS recognises and rewards young hairstylists who demonstrate excellence and exhibit a strong affinity with fashion. This national competition, performed live on stage in front of a panel of prominent judges, measures hair styling in 4 categories: cut, colour, styling and total look.
Winners from 12 regions will come together in Auckland to compete on a national platform, at the grand final this Saturday.
This grand event celebrating young Kiwi talent will also feature a special guest performance from local band stellar*. Who have a new album due out next month.
WELLA’S marketing manager, Claire Johnston says “ Stylists need to have not only the hairdressing skills to perform a precise cut, technically excellent colour work and accurate styling technique, but also demonstrate to the judging panel an appreciation and understanding of today’s fashion scene.”
The 2006 WELLA YPS final will include a variety of prestigious awards including Colour Creativity Award, Fashion Focus Award, two Runners Up and the Overall Winner.
The WELLA YPS 2006 National Final winner will receive a $5,000 prize package of travel and accommodation to London, including 1 week’s training at the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Academy. Plus, the YPS trophy.
The final will be held at Shed 6, Auckland ASB Showgrounds, for tickets call 0508-452-387, they are $40 each.
