“Us and Them”… Pink Floyd Project rocks with the APO
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is nothing if not diverse in its programming. On Saturday 22 July the APO lets fly
on the rock stage when it teams up with Australian PINK FLOYD PROJECT to bring the timeless anthems of the iconic
British super group to life.
The full strength APO will be joined on stage by a ten piece band featuring some of Australia’s most highly regarded
music identities. Fronting the performance will be soloists Rob Pippan (guitar), Warwick Cheatle (bass) and John Zak
(drums). The fine musicianship is also extended by arrangers Jamie Messenger and Bruce Stewart who have penned the
orchestral score for this concert.
“The opportunity to play with the entire might of the APO and our ten piece band is an honour and a privilege, and one
that was too good to miss. The band line-up comprises 2 male lead singers, 3 female backing vocalists, bass, drums,
keyboards, sax and lead guitar replicating the ’80s live Pink Floyd concert line-up. The goal is simple – the band is
emulating the sound and arrangements of the classic Pink Floyd records, making this an authentic concert experience,”
said guitarist Rob Pippan.
Following the recent confirmation that the original Pink Floyd will not be reuniting following their successful
reformation for the 2005 Live 8 concert, this will be the closest New Zealand fans will get to experiencing Pink Floyd.
For those who love Pink Floyd this concert will not disappoint. From early Floyd in The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the
legendary Dark Side of the Moon, to the rock opera classic The Wall, patrons will be taken on a nostalgic journey of the
many eras of this much loved band.
“Concertgoers can sit back and enjoy Pink Floyd classics such as Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, Shine On You
Crazy Diamond, some early Sid Barrett numbers and many more surprises. It’s a must-see for all Floyd fans as well as
rock and orchestral music buffs,” Rob Pippan added.
This concert offers much more than a presentation of the music of Pink Floyd though. The APO will be the driving power
in the concert, with additional orchestration textures providing a complete orchestral rock sound.
