NZRU board member Paul Quinn has rejected Maori rugby legend Bill Bush’s call for the New Zealand Maori Team to be included in the World Cup.
Speaking on TV One’s Eye to Eye programme this morning, Quinn said inclusion in the World Cup was not in the best interests of Maori rugby.
He said it was out of the NZRU’s hands anyway, because the IRB rules are one team per country.
Former All Black and NZ Maori coach Bill Bush, who was also a panelist on the programme said the Maori team were a national one, as Maori were tangata whenua, and they should be included.
Eye to Eye with Willie Jackson screens Saturday morning at 9.30 on TV One and will be repeated Tuesday night at 11.
