Cardrona Athletes Recognised In Sports Award
Juliane Bray and Jossi Wells, both of who train and coach at Cardrona Alpine Resort, had their sporting achievements recognised at the recent ASB Otago Sports Awards in Dunedin.
Bray, who is a senior coach with the pipe, park and boarder-x snowboard programme at Cardrona’s High Performance Centre, took out Sportswoman of the Year for the second year running. She is New Zealand’s top ranked women’s snowboarder and recently represented New Zealand at the Winter Olympics at Torino, placing 16th in the halfpipe and 20th in the boarder-x.
Jossi Wells, (16) is widely regarded as New Zealand’s top free skier and will be a guest coach for Cardrona’s High Performance Centre, providing inspiration and encouragement to other youngsters as they work on their competition skills in the pipe and park. He took out the Junior Sportsperson of the Year in recognition of his outstanding performance on the international circuit in the past year, including a second place in the US Free Skiing Nationals. Despite his young age, Wells regularly competes against athletes in the open men’s category with excellent results.
The awards were presented in front of 500 guests at the Dunedin Town Hall and were organised by Sport Otago in partnership with the Halberg Trust.
