Matt Elliott & Alex Hawley present
A Few of My Least Favourite Things
Matt and Alex are annoyed. From amateur buskers to hyperactive breakfast radio show hosts and people who put up umbrellas out of the rain, the world of Wellington is making these thirty-somethings weary. Come and enjoy an evening of comic moaning from two of the finest whingers in Wellington. Be there…or don’t – they’ll just include you next time!
Matt Elliott has performed stand-up comedy nationally and internationally since 1989 but this is his first festival show since acclaimed appearances in 1994 with Dean Butler and Andrew Clay and 1995 with Australian Mark Pengilly. In between times he has written the only history of local comedy, 'Kiwi Jokers – The Rise and Rise of New Zealand Comedy’, taught comedy writing, written and directed university revues, worked in film, television and radio.
He appeared with Alex Hawley and Mike Bodnar in the stand-up comedy show ‘This Time Next Year’ at the Paramount Theatre in the Wellington Fringe Festival 2006. He produces and hosts a weekly radio show devoted to comedy from New Zealand and around the world, The Comedy Hour with Matt Elliott, on Wellington Access Radio 783AM, Mondays 7-8pm (also accessible via the internet www.accessradio.org.nz).
'The only one with anything new to offer' – NZ Herald
'A relaxing comic persona that makes the audience think and laugh. Simply put, he was very, very funny' – Melbourne Age
Alex Hawley’s stand-up comedy career is less than a year old but already he has established himself as one of the new talents on the local scene. Winner of the Raw Comedy Quest at Indigo in only his second gig he was then voted Best Newcomer by his peers at the Wellington Comedy Awards in December and was a finalist in the same category at the Comedy Guild Awards in December. He appeared with Matt Elliott and Mike Bodnar in the stand-up comedy show ‘This Time Next Year’ at the Paramount Theatre in the Wellington Fringe Festival 2006.
