From India With Love
SOLD OUT at the 2005 ODDFELLOWS NZ International Comedy Festival and direct from a SELL OUT tour of MALAYSIA and SOUTH AFRICA, From India with Love returns for a limited season in Auckland and Wellington as part of the 2006 International Comedy Festival.
This is Bollywood at it’s best! It’s a celebration of love, loss and survival. Hilarious dance routines, projected movie sequences and clever puppetry leave audiences in hysterical laughter.
Winner of Best Local Act at the 2004 NZ International Comedy Festival and the creators of the hit show D’Arranged Marriage, Those Indian Guys aka Rajeev Varma and Tarun Mohanbhai, have won the hearts of audiences in New Zealoand, Melbourne, Sydney, Malaysia and South Africa.
Directed by renowned comedian and social commentator Te Radar, movie sequences directed by award winning film director Cristobal Araus Lobos, set design by John Parker and sound by leading NZ DJ Timmy Schumacher – this show has all the glitz and glamour of New Zealand theatre at its best!
From India with Love is set in the 1950’s and follows the adventures of Manhur and Pushpa; two of the favorite characters from Those Indians Guys first show D’Arranged Marriage. Manhur is a fisherman with nothing and Pushpa is a simple village girl with a sick father. After they meet and fall in love thanks to a hilarious Bollywood dance routine they decide to journey to New Zealand to earn money to pay for Papa’s treatment. But the journey to New Zealand is not what they expect. After getting shipwrecked on the shores of Aotearoa and meeting the local Iwi, they are forced to live in a floorless shack with no running water and power. But with the help of some Hindu gods, and a local Indian community, Manhur and Pushpa are able to get on their feet and make some kind of a life in this land called New Zealand.
