“Nothing happens by accident. All I want is everything now”
Straight after a successful season in Wellington, the first play to emerge from the Luxembourg Gardens residencies is
opening here in Auckland on Wednesday 31 May at 8pm. For just $20 you can check out the place you’ve been hearing about
and see what they’ve been doing up to up there on Customs St East.
One wrong move and the waiter loses the use of his legs. Chronic OOS turns a man to violence. A woman becomes hopelessly
lost in Hanoi while another convinces herself she’s dying of cancer.
“This is a story that ended up telling itself. Everyone has a story about how work has worked their body and the more
people we spoke to the more we realised that the way people see their bodies directly relates to how they see the world
around them” says writer/director Stephen Bain (dir. Stories Told To Me By Girls). “Viewed in comparison to third world
countries where manual labour and a holistic view of the body predominates, the western physique is fast becoming an
inefficient machine.” As the Dominion Post review states “The structure and playing of [everything. now] wonderfully
portrays the way life has turned out for most people, succumbing to the pressures of the immediacy of the here and now,
the demands of everyone wanting everything now.”
To create everything. now Stephen has been work-shopping since January at Luxembourg Gardens as part of the first
performing arts residency to take place there, sharing the space with a dance company and a music ensemble. With some of
New Zealand’s finest young talent; Toi Whakaari graduate Rachel Forman, Caoimhe Macfehin, Unitec dance grad Josh Rutter
and Bloodworks theatre company co-founder Regan Taylor “…four splendidly committed performances that compel our interest

Rutter, Stephen Bain has created a physical and emotional journey into the bodies and minds of the characters of this
modern tale. And as it follows the four as they battle to align their bodies and their minds with their lives, it’s
going to be hard to ignore a play that gives you everything. now.
