Magic march on
Casey Williams marked her return to full fitness with a dominant defensive display as defending champions Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic supported by Sleepyhead marched to an emphatic 70-28 win over the More FM Flyers in the fourth round of the National Bank Cup netball action in Rotorua tonight.
It was the fourth straight win for the Magic who dominated from the outset with decisive quarter break leads of 19-8, 41-15 and 54-21 to maintain their unbeaten run in this year’s competition.
Williams and fellow defender Joline Henry were the only two Magic players to see out the whole match as coach Noeline Taurua opted to give her full bench a run, the resulting reshuffle of the playing line-up allowing little respite for the Flyers.
The Magic maintained their clinical efficiency throughout with a ruthless first half before changes were made in the second stanza. It did not alter the intensity as the Magic continued to score at will with leading shooter Irene van Dyk missing just one of her attempts while at the other end of the court a big defensive effort by the Magic limited the Flyers to few opportunities. Williams won the player of the match for her efforts.
