NZ’s biggest comedy export, physical comedian Rhys Darby returns from a triumphant year in Britain with his highly anticipated new standup show.
Rhys Darby: based on actual events is a stand-up comedy show with a difference. Rather than just telling the stories, Rhys will re-enact them using his skills for physical theatre and his impressive array of human sound effects.

Since his arrival in Britain four years ago, Rhys Darby has become one of NZ’s hottest comedy exports. He headlines the bill at all of the prestigious clubs including Jongleurs and The Comedy Store. He has also performed in many other countries including Germany, France, Italy, Iceland, Dubai, and even to British troops in the Falkland Islands. Last year alone he performed in six festivals across the globe including Edinburgh, Montreal and Cape Town.

In 2005 Rhys returned to NZ to perform his play “Jekyll and Hyde 2030”. After receiving rave reviews he toured the country with the ODDFELLOWS Comedy Convoy’ showcase. Then he went back to London to star in the BBC Radio 2 show “The Flight of the Conchords” as Bryan Nesbitt the bands manager.
Rhys also makes regular appearances on British television. In fact he was the first kiwi act ever to be invited to perform on The Comedy Store Live TV show. This year he will appear in a new childrens programme for BBC2 called “The mighty truck of stuff”. As recognition of this Rhys recently won the Kevin Smith Memorial Cup for international artist achievement at the NZ Comedy Guild awards.
