YOU AM I: New Album ‘Convicts’ Out May 29
One of Australia’s most treasured and acclaimed bands YOU AM I have announced the New Zealand release of their seventh
studio album ‘Convicts’ on May 29th through Virgin Music. The album, produced by long time collaborator Greg Wales is
preceded by the digital-only release of their single ‘It Ain’t Funny How We Don’t Talk Anymore’.
Since 1992, YOU AM I have grown to become one of the countries most successful and enduring bands. They’ve bagged seven
ARIA Awards, set a record for three consecutive straight-in-at-No. 1 albums (“Hi-Fi Way”, “Hourly Daily”, “No. 4
Record”) on the Australian charts, and attracted legions of adoring fans. They’ve inspired a multitude of Australian
bands to do things their own way (with Silverchair, Jet, The Vines, The Sleepy Jackson, Wolfmother, Dallas Crane amongst
them), and given some international acts their first widespread exposure downunder (The Strokes, The Dirtbombs).
Recorded in sixteen days over a three month period in five studios, ‘Convicts’ is a short, sharp burst (36 minutes in
fact!) of frenetic rock along with the trademark heartfelt lyrics of Tim Rogers. ‘Convicts’ is a slightly grubby,
12-track reminder of Tim, Rusty, Andy and Davey’s considerable collective charm.
You Am I will play one New Zealand show at Auckland University’s Shadows Bar on Thursday 1st June.
‘Convicts’ is yet another chapter in the career of a band that has seen it all. Accept no imitations…YOU AM I are back
to reclaim their crown!
