Electronic Double Hit at Sandwiches
“Heavy Hitters Weekender”
Wellington switches on the heavy electrics this Queen’s Birthday weekend as Radio Active & Sandwiches present a right royal groove from the electronic playing fields of London and Austria.
For less than fifty bucks punters get a Double Header ticket to ‘pass go’ combining a Saturday night session by DK of Ninja Tune and Solid Steel fame, then on Sunday night it’s a new game with Viennese DJ, Richard Dorfmeister accompanied by Galliano head honcho Earl Zinger, rapt up by a well earned rest on Her Majesty’s birthday holiday.
DK alias Darren Knott is a DJ, music maker, radio pirate, producer and presenter, a key component in the Ninja Tune music label and posse, and one of the main driving forces behind the legendary Coldcut Solid Steel radio show.
He loves diggin in crates and dropping the Ninja DJ glue around the globe and some of DK’s career highlights include spinning vinyl in a steaming hot turkish bath in Hungary, atop a cold Swiss mountain and in amongst an unexpected riot in Greece (opening up for the Prodigy).
DK produces and dj’s the Coldcut Solid Steel radio show which is syndicated weekly to over 20 radio stations world-wide, including Wellington’s Radio Active, and he’s one third of Ninja Tune’s DJ Food collective alongside Strictly Kev and PC.
Richard Dorfmeister alias Dr Richard, DJ, producer and musician, has been at the top of his dancefloor game for nearly fifteen years, either with sidekick Peter Kruder in Kruder and Dorfmeister, the dancefloor stomping grounds of Madrid de los Austria's or with schoolyard friend Rupert Huber in Tosca.
Its the lush European lounge-dub of Kruder & Dorfmeister, and their remixes for the likes of Roni Size, Madonna, Bomb The Bass, Lamb, Depeche Mode, Rockers Hifi and Bones Thugs and Harmony that’s made him arguably one of the biggest and most licensed stars in the DJ/producer world. The duo’s groundbreaking 1996 mix-CD compilation, K & D Sessions has sold over 10,000 copies in NZ alone.
Speaker stack commander MC Earl Zinger, is a fearless beat master, conqueror of bass lines, DJ and self-confessed braggart. Between 1988 and 1996, at that time still known to the world by his real name Rob Gallagher, he rode on the crest of the Acid Jazz wave fronting his band Galliano.
