Cheese on Toast in and Mole Music are proud to present from Petaluma, California, Moggs.
Imagine the looping jangle of late-era Sonic Youth and the discordance of Shellac and you are only just beginning to
imagine Moggs. A two-piece; Sir Plus’ frayed guitars chime and churn over Miss Minor’s hitching percussion – both take
vocal duties; Minor deadpan’s while Plus tersely reminisces.
The White Belt is Not Enough is their debut album, recorded in a Victorian manor in Petaluma, CA, and mastered Nick Webb
at Abbey Road Studios, London, UK.
"We wrote this album over the period of several years with the intent of making a record by ourselves with no
compromise. We set out to construct something we wanted to listen to," says Miss Minor.
According to Moggs, rock and roll’s attitude and apparel have been co-opted leaving the actual music behind. Moggs call
it “persona over substance,” the commercialization of rock, which allows anyone to cash in on the appearance of talent
alone.
“It’s a social comment on all these co-opted looks from the scene and taking it and putting it on crappy music or music
that’s not related.” Says Sir Plus.
It seems fashion has become a false indicator of deeper meaning even if it is lacking. Frustrated with this superficial
attitude and distressed that there is ‘no reference point’ from which these attitudes can attribute, Moggs, with their
purist ideal of music and perfectionist obsession, search for something more.
And you can help them find it in New Zealand in May 2006.
Moggs play three NZ dates :
AUCKLAND – Thursday 18 May at The Schooner Tavern
HAMILTION – Friday 19 May at Ward Lane
WELLINGTON – Saturday 20 May at Happy
Moggs will be joined by Teen Wolf and The Blunts on all three dates.
