Jog The Dog Gets Canines Off The Couch

Hamish Carter and some canine friends will be front runners at this year’s Purina Jog the Dog fun run and walk on 23
April at One Tree Hill Domain, Auckland.
Purina PetCare representative Susan O’Brien said the event, which is aimed at small and large dogs, covers a distance of
either 5 km or 2.4 km.
“Jog the Dog is just one of the initiatives that Purina support aimed at highlighting the need for people to take a more
active role in ensuring the good health and fitness of their dogs.
“Just like humans, New Zealand’s cats and dogs are becoming more unhealthy and unfit,” Susan said.
Hamish will joinaround 700 dog owners at the event to lend his support to the cause. All proceeds will go to Mobility
Dogs, an organisation established to provide helpful companions to those with physical disabilities.
Along with cyclist Sarah Ulmer, Hamish is also lending their weight to the Purina ONE 30 Day Challenge which aims to
improve the health and nutrition of cats and dogs around the country.
“The 30 Day Challenge is a really easy programme for busy pet owners to follow, and goes a long way to improving the
diet and general health of their pets,” Hamish said.
The Purina ONE 30 Day Challenge was launched in 2004 and aims to educate pet owners on optimum nutrition for pets.
Hamish is urging dog owners to participate in both events.
“Just like the human population, we’ve got a rapidly growing nation of ‘couch potato’ dogs who don’t get enough exercise
and lack proper nutrition.
“Jog the Dog is a really fun way for both dogs and their owners to get off the couch and get active, and to have some
great fun with other dogs,” Hamish said.
Jog the Dog will feature a range of fun activities including the popular SPLASH DOGS event featured at this years Pet
Expo, as well as agility and obedience displays, a dog café, tricks for treats and a Miss Purina and Mr Tux 2006. There
will also be lots of spot prizes and live music for the dogs to bark along to.
“It’s sure to be a fun day for dogs and owners alike,” Hamish said.
