MANGAWHAI WATER WINGS NEW ZEALAND’S TOP BOX
Winners of Great New Zealand Letterbox Competition
A Mangawhai letterbox has taken the title of New Zealand’s top box in the inaugural Great New Zealand Letterbox Competition.
Water Wings, by Joy Agar of Mangawhai, was voted number one by visitors to the Royal Easter Show, and announced as overall winner on Easter Monday.
John Deere Tractor, by Tony and Billy Reynolds of Pukekohe, was also awarded reserve champion thanks to the large number of public votes it received.
As far as the judges’ picks go, Queenstown letterbox Dopey Deer was placed first by judges in the rural section, while Whangarei entry Snail Mail came first in the urban section.
Aimed at celebrating good old-fashioned kiwi ingenuity, innovation, creativity and practicality, the inaugural competition saw more than 50 entries received from throughout New Zealand.
Other entries included a fire engine, flying pig, camera, toilet, tractor, rocket, lighthouse, mermaid and pukeko.
All winning letterboxes and finalists were on display throughout the Royal Easter Show. More than 15 entries made it to Auckland for display, while the others provided photos which were also on show.
The Great New Zealand Letterbox Competition was proudly supported by rural couriers Coural, PMP Mail and Weekend Gardener magazine.
