Mercury Bay Regional Museum Development Phase 1 – Green Light
Following an earlier design team meeting, the Design team of Grant Collie (LDPS NZ LTD, Project Director) , Perry Royal (Royal Associates, Architects), Pip Prime (Urban Escape, Exhibition Designer), David Seaton (LDPS, Technical Consultant), Janet Riddell (MB Historical Society, Researcher) and Derek Preece (Construction Supervisor) made a detailed presentation to local stakeholders and supporters at the Mercury Bay Regional Museum on Wed 12^th April.
This confirmed that the project will proceed as follows:
Phase 1a –
* Redevelopment of visitor access and reception/Shop Area * Access Ramp * Major new exhibit ‘THE NAVIGATORS’ Research, construction and opening (NOV 06). * Planetarium construction and opening (TBA) * General work on the Maritime theme areas and internal décor.
Phase 1b –
* External walkway/Gallery * Remaining exhibits in existing museum. * Overall interpretative theming. * External decorative upgrade.
Phase 1c –
* New office and admin facilities * External landscaping * Temporary Workshop and storage facilities. * Alternative energy systems.
Phase 2, which includes the new frontage to the building plus café and visiting exhibition space, will commence on completion of the Phase 1 development to ensure that funding is in place for each stage of development.
