THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION OVER THE SEA
THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION
ISLINGTON ACADEMY
01/06/06
Wellington's The Phoenix Foundation bring their wonderfully lush and eclectic sound to London en route to a tour of the US of A.
The self described "heavy folk rockin wheat free mutha fxxxxxs" first made a splash with 2002's "Horsepower" album, released on Capitol Recordings and voted album of the year by nzmusic.com and The Listener. But it was last year's "Pegasus" that has kicked them into the big time, coming out on EMI and swiftly going gold back home as well as garnering critical acclaim.
Renowned for their strong live show, The Phoenix Foundation have played with the likes of the Finn Brothers, Calexico, SJD, Evan Dando and Cortina as well as playing slots at some of New Zealand's biggest festivals including The Big Day Out in 2005.

SATURDAY APRIL 22 - ANZAC WEEKEND
THE FORUM - ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT
(OPPOSITE HORDERN PAVILLION)
9pm START
Featuring direct from NZ just for this party..
JOE DUKIE & DJ FITCHIE (DALLAS & MU FROM FAT FREDDY'S DROP)
OPENSOULS (LIVE 5-PIECE BAND)
THE TURNAROUND DJS (MANUEL BUNDY, SUBMARINER & CIAN)
KING KAPISI
We've flown in some of NZ's very best for one night of live band action, dub soul madness, big big tunes, bad beats and some deep solid bass - NZ style. Seen.
JOE DUKIE & DJ FITCHIE - these two talents are the alter egos of Wellington's DJ Mu and vocalist Dallas Tamaira, gaining momentum currently with their big band Fat Freddys Drop - possibly the hottest band on the planet right now, selling out shows wherever they play. When they get together to DJ and sing/MC, expect the amazing sounds you know, just beefed up twenty notches (could that be possible???) still laced with their trademark skanking rhythms and honeyed beats. And to see Dallas sing Midnight Marauders with Mu on the cut is breathtaking to say the least..
The band Opensouls are NZ's leading exponent of urban soul music. Together since 2002, they are a collective of some of the hottest young musicians in Auckland, all sharing a common background in soul and jazz music. With musicians who have worked with such artists as Mark De Clive Lowe, Tha' Feelstyle, Solaa, and many more; think a mix of the Quantic Soul Orchestra, Alice Russell, Fat Freddy's Drop and De La Soul, salted with that special fatness only a true love of music can muster. With an album set to drop in April that is nothing short of genius, this band is the one to watch..
Originator and premiere NZ hip hop star KING KAPISI comes to represent his true island-style of upfront rhymes and big booming beats, all laced with that sweet funked up NZ sound. His new album will hit the streets in May, so expect classic tracks mixed with brand new tunes in a live set that's been slaying crowds from the Marlborough Sounds to Melbourne..
THE TURNAROUND DJS (Manuel Bundy, Submariner and Cian) have the hottest club night in Auckland, enjoying an unparalleled reputation for partying til' the break of dawn. This trio need to be seen (or heard?) to be believed with their no prisoners brand of swamp funk, hip hop, rare grooves, broken beat'n'bass and boozy breaks, so expect your body to swerve..

FLY MY PRETTIES DOUBLE PACK DOUBLE GOODNESS
The lovely people at The Green Room website thought "What the heck!" and also "Lets let our hair down!". After they thought that they came up with a Double Pack Fly My Pretties for $49.95 that includes both the albums - Live At Bats and The Return of Fly My Pretties. Gee Wiz!
WATCH FMP DOCUMENTARY ON WEB
LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa and www.amplifier.co.nz present the online stream of the music documentary for the gold selling album 'The Return of Fly My Pretties'.
The documentary is an insightful look into the behind the scenes events surrounding the eight live album recording sessions and shows at the Paramount Theatre (Wellington) and Hopetoun Alpha (Auckland) during late 2005.
The thoughts of the musicians and production team are revealed as the first shows draw nearer and it dawns on all involved the size of the project they are part of. With the highs and lows come the development of the Fly My Pretties family and support that they lend to one another.
The unique documentary was produced and filmed by Nektar Films who also produced the multimedia element of the shows. Jason Naran directed the documentary and Gareth Moon was the Producer.
Enjoy!
NEW RECLOOSE MUSIC VIDEO ONLINE
Watch the video
LOOP Music Video Library
A web version is now available so you can watch good old Recloose anytime ya want. His caricature is also bouncing across New Zealand screens on C4, Juice TV and TV3 for Recloose's new music video Mana's Bounce.
'Mana's Bounce' is the brand new second video from Recloose's sophomore album 'Hiatus On The Horizon'. Mana's Bounce is about Recloose's two-and-a-half-year old son Manahi. The video is directed by Wellington's Jeremy Mansford and Preston McNeil. The two directors last year won Radio Active's prestigious 'Handle The Jandle' music video award.
With 812 body parts, 55 characters, 927 photos and nine additional animators and compositors, the video was a labor of love for the two directors. Preston McNeill explains: "The cut-out style of animation required a huge amount of preparation time, especially as we had just over fifty characters in the video. We have to give a big thanks to all the guys who helped smash out animation for us, without whom we'd still be working on it!"
Jeremy Mansford sums up: "We wanted to create a video that had lots going on, with several subplots evolving. The idea being that it could be viewed several times, with the viewer discovering more with each watch".
A special thanks to Huffer for their endorsement of the video. "Mana's Bounce" is taken from the second Recloose album "Hiatus On the Horizon" which is out now on LOOP, distributed through Border Music.
