'Mean Maori Mean' Broadcasts Live from Rotorua
Maori Television’s dynamic sports entertainment show CODE will broadcast live from the inaugural International
Indigenous Sports Conference in Rotorua on Thursday March 16 at 8.30 PM.
Broadcast live each week from Maori Television’s Auckland studios or from major sports events around the country, the
one-hour interview-based programme includes the latest news, inside stories and behind-the-scenes action with top sports
personalities making headlines at home and abroad.
Hosts include former Silver Fern Jenny-May Coffin, rugby league legend Tawera Nikau, former Kiwi captain Ritchie
Barnett, Wairangi Koopu from the Warriors and sevens representative Matua Parkinson as well as newcomers, former All
Black Glen Osborne and champion surfer Lisa Hurunui.
The International Indigenous Sports Conference – from March 17 to 18 – has lined up a number of Maori, Pacific Island
and other Kiwi sporting greats including David Dixon. A veteran lineman for the Minnesota Vikings and one of the highest
paid New Zealanders in sport today, Dixon will be a special guest on CODE.
The event celebrates the contribution of Maori in sport and creates an environment where sports people, coaches,
managers and administrators can get together, share ideas and come up with alternative indigenous sporting models.
Maori Television executive producer of sport Bailey Mackey – who is a guest speaker at the conference along with Tawera
Nikau – says live broadcasts from special sports events is a new feature of CODE this year.
“Our first season last year proved that the show’s format can flourish,” Mackey says. “This will be our first live
broadcast on the road for 2006 and it’s sure to be a big hit with viewers.”
