Brits and Finns take out top placing at 2006 Vodafone id Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards

An international selection of young designers were announced as winners of the 2006 Vodafone id Dunedin Emerging Designer Awards.
The winners were announced at a spectacular Award show held on the evening of Friday 10 March at Dunedin's Edgar Stadium, hosted by Carol Hirschfeld.

Joint winner of Awards - Jarno Viitala (Finland)

The joint first prize was awarded to Lucie Marquis of Kingston University London (UK), with her collection All Dolled Up in Black and White, and Jarno Viitala of the University of Art and Design (Helsinki, Finland), with his collection Ultraviolent.
Lucie Marquis and Jarno Viitala, the only male finalist in the awards, share a $3000 first prize.
Second prize of $1000 goes to Jodie Webster of the Otago Polytechnic School of Fashion, Dunedin, for her collection Hunted.
Third prize went to Aino Vainio of the RMIT (Melbourne, Australia) and the University of Art and Design (Helsinki, Finland) for her collection Issue (me like boy), who collects a luxury gift bag filled with Revlon and Redken products.
Lucie Marquis, Jarno Viitala and Aino Vainio will all now go forward into a special Emerging Designers section at the 2006 Vodafone id Dunedin Fashion Show at the Dunedin Railway Station on Saturday 11 March. Jodie Webster is already featuring in the Otago Polytech Graduate Section at the 2006 Vodafone id Dunedin Fashion Show.
A special prize to attend the Mittelmoda Festival in Italy went to Dunedin-based designer Shola Steele of the Otago Polytechnic School of Fashion with her untitled collection.
The winners were selected from 20 collections from New Zealand, Australia and Europe.
The judging panel for the awards features international creative professionals including Postgraduate Co-ordinator (Communication Design) at RMIT University (Melbourne), Laurene Vaughan, Creative Director of Lino Magazine (Sydney), Rex Turnbull, Publisher of New Zealand based international fashion magazine and website Lucire, Jack Yan, fashion designer Sara Aspinall of Nom*D, fashion designer Tanya Carlson of Carlson, and Stefano Sopelza of the Mittelmoda fashion festival (Italy).
