After rave reviews Wellington artist Paul Forrest once again transforms the M.F.C. foyer into a colour filled painting studio and gallery. Paul will be at the easel everyday creating magic on canvas before your eyes.
Visit www.paulforrest.co.nz for a preview.
Paul Forrest thrives on being an exhibitionist at his exhibitions – you won’t find this accessible and gregarious artist ferreted away in a garret somewhere.
The NZ Affordable Arts Show organizers state:
“Paul Forrest has been an artist in residence at the 2004 and 2005 NZ Affordable Art Shows. We intend this to occur year after year as he adds so much value to our event.”
This is Forrest’s 7th Artist in Residence. His last residency at the Michael Fowler Centre was viewed by an estimated 15,000 people who were delighted by Forrest’s easy rapport and demystification of his art process.
“I am endeavouring to inspire others to paint by revealing some of my creative processes and offering my broad knowledge of art materials through dialogue and painting demonstrations; encouraging people to engage with my work and to offer their opinions and suggestions. This process of letting go of the controls is always new and exciting and constantly pushes at my creative boundaries to propel me into new areas of exploration.”
Schools groups are being invited to attend and will have the opportunity to view up to 30 of the artist’s works as well as a chance to meet the artist.
In recent years Paul has experimented with working on up to 12 canvases at once opening up a symphonic creative process allowing a dynamic freedom of expression with colour and form.
These works explore angelic figures as benign observers occupying pixilated colour fields in contemporary icon paintings.
The works in the exhibition are for sale.
“All are works which celebrate life as a dance full of richness and sensuality. His paintings are both reverent in their spiritual opulence and free in their abandonment” Mark Amery Dominion Post 25/2/2005
