International Award For New Zealand Photographer
For the second successive year Auckland-based photographer Jocelyn Carlin has been awarded in the International Black & White Spider Awards for photography.
In the recently announced awards Carlin’s work was recognised in the Nature category with ‘The Cabbage Tree’.
In the previous year her work was recognised in the abstract category with the ‘Birds’ composite (see low res jpeg
attached).
Both photographs are from the LAND series where Carlin focuses on aspects of memory and experience in the New Zealand
landscape.
Carlin says the award is particularly pleasing because of the calibre of the judges.
The international panel of 30 people from across many related photographic disciplines include: David Clarke Head of
Photography The Tate London; Thom Vogel Bonni Benrubi Gallery, New York: Sue Brisk Editorial Director Magnum Photos New
York; Darren Ching Creative Director Photo Distict News; Eric Browner Administrator of the Man Ray Trust; Rebecca
Bedrossian Communication Arts Magazine; and Alicia McWhinnie Editor Black & White Photography Magazine.
Carlin’s is known for creative photography and photo-journalism and has been concentrating on issues and concerns of
Pacific Island people in the last five years.
