Woo your loved one at Auckland Zoo this Valentine's Day
Escape the hustle of crowded restaurants this Valentine's Day and head to Auckland Zoo for a uniquely romantic experience (Tuesday 14 February, 6.30pm-9pm).
Valentine's at the Zoo, sponsored by Newstalk ZB and Viva Auckland, will romance you and your loved one with world-class jazz from the Nairobi Trio and the sultry sounds of Debbie Harwood (performing at the band rotunda from 6.30pm). As well as enjoying the music, you can take your partner on a twilight stroll around the park-like zoo grounds. Bring a picnic, grab some 'love-bites' from the band rotunda and licensed Darwins Café, or pre-purchase a delicious Darwin's hamper.
For a more intimate dining affair, reserve a table at the romantic Newstalk ZB Rainforest Restaurant. Take in the lush surrounds as you are waited on with fine wine and a delectable four-course meal. This unique outdoor restaurant, especially set up for the night, is strictly limited to eight tables.
With the mood of love in the air, couples are encouraged to spare a thought for Nisha, the zoo's sadly single Sumatran tiger. Fewer than 400 of these magnificent creatures remain in the wild, and there are just 200 in captive facilities.
The zoo has a campaign under way to bring Nisha a mate, so she can start a family and contribute to the captive breeding programme for her species. Purchasing a Valentine's raffle ticket on the night will not only offer you a chance to win fantastic prizes - including the exciting opportunity to meet the big cat herself up close - but also help support this worthy love-match conservation project.
Valentine's at the Zoo is a limited capacity event and tickets to this special night are already selling fast. We recommend advance booking to avoid disappointment. As an extra incentive - and a great chance to treat yourself or your loved one - all pre-purchased tickets enter you in the draw to win a pamper pack from D'Aguiar Hair Nails Skin, including a massage and Dermalogica goodies.
Tickets: $16, hampers from $30 - available from the zoo on (09) 360 3805 or Ticketek (no concession or children's prices available). Friends of the Zoo members receive a 20 per cent discount. Visit www.aucklandzoo.co.nz for more information.
