Return of the Nakeds
At Ono - Pacific Arts Family Day on Saturday 4 February, the return of the Naked Samoans marks the sixth Pacific Arts
festival that these comedians have attended, giving them a 100% attendance rate to Christchurch's annual summer Pasifika
event, which runs from Wed 1 - Sat 4 February.
Most well-known for their hilarious TV show TV3's BroTown, three of the four Naked Samoan's Oscar Kightley, Mario Gaoa,
and Shimpal Lelisi will appear at Ono - Pacific Arts for only a short time this year at the Family Day, the event that
ends the festival every year with all day free entertainment, food, arts and crafts.
Dave Fane of the Naked Samoans, who recently starred in TV2's The Market, will not be attending this year as he prepares
for a play, but, will later join the rest of the Nakeds for preparation of their latest project - a project that puts
the Naked Samoan's on the silver screen.
"Sione's Wedding" a feature film written by Oscar Kightley and featuring all members of the Naked Samoans, as well as
Robbie Magasiva and Iaheto Ah Hi will be launched in March 30th this year. From the soundtrack of the movie, the song "I
Do Believe", featuring Dawn Raid's Mareko, Lapi Mariner has already been seen and heard on our TV screens and on the
radio in the lead up the movie release.
The Ono - Pacific Arts Family Day will feature entertainment all day including acts from Cydel and The Groovehouse,
Dub/Hip Hop group 'Interislander Sound' from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, Island reggae band 'Koile of Dunedin
and local acts Te Huaki Puanaki, Que, Jahmen, Restoration, Nastagroove, Ebony Fields, breaking crew Common Ground, with
traditional dance groups such as the Canterbury Fijian Community and Kapa Haka group Te Kotahitanga. The Naked Samoans
will be on stage through out the day.
