Boost for Emerging Artists with New Art Award
Wheeler Campbell are currently accepting submissions for their Inaugural Emerging Art Awards. As an innovative
opportunity to connect their clients and candidates with emerging artists, Wheeler Campbell, a recruitment and human
resources service provider, see their Emerging Art Awards as providing opportunity to boost artists at the beginning of
their careers when recognition is often illusive.
Submissions have already been received from as far wide as Kerikeri, Nelson and Invercargill, as well as from the major
cities.
Participating Wellington artist, Morag Stokes said “The Wheeler Campbell Emerging Art Awards represent an opportunity to
widen exposure to my art, possibly sell my work, and donate 30% of the sale to my chosen charity, the Muscular Dystrophy
Association. It also provides a new forum for response and feedback on my work. This will be my first attempt at a
competition and regardless of the outcome, events of this kind help to give a strong focus and deadline for a piece of
work.“
“Any support from the wider community towards arts funding is both needed and gratefully accepted. It is important that
artists in turn support these events as they arise,” said Daniel Clifford, a Wanganui artist entering the Emerging Art
Awards.
Artists from around New Zealand are invited to submit a 2D artwork in any medium. There are four prizes ranging in value
from $1000 to $250. Entry is open to New Zealand residents over the age of 18.
An arts-specialist panel will select the finalists, and on-line voting will be open to the public at http://www.wheelercampbell.co.nz/ from 6-17 February 06.
The prizes will be awarded at the Awards Evening held in Wellington on 28 February 06 which will be attended by Wheeler
Campbell clients, candidates, and finalist artists. All finalist artwork will be available to purchase on the night,
with 70% going to the artist and 30% to an artist-nominated charity.
