It's A Wet And Quiet Big Day Out This Year
The Big Day Out has announced two new attractions for 2006 - the Fruju Vibe Slide and Silent Disco will bring more
sideshow fun to the day for thousands of punters.
"Wheeeeee, bring your togs!" squealed Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith on Christmas Eve as he arse-tested the latest
attraction he claims to have built for Auckland's Big Day Out on 20 January.
If truth be known, Smith had actually just laid a sheet of black polythene down the bank at Ericsson stadium and was
riding a mixture of dishwashing liquid and hose-water down to the cinder track.
But his foolish larrikinism proved inspiration for a proper zoomslide of awesome proportions - 30 metres long and seven
metres high - to be brought to the Big Day Out by Fruju Vibe.
The Fruju Vibe Slide is stationed up near the Green and Essential stages. You've gotta wear shorts or togs to take a
ride on it (strictly no nudity allowed in the pool) but there are changing rooms for both sexes nearby so you can change
out of your moshpit gears before hitting the slide.
Like all rides and sideshow attractions at the Big Day Out, it's free to ride the Fruju Vibe Slide.
The other new attraction at this year's event is the Silent Disco. Famously launched at last year's Glastonbury in an
effort to get past late night noise regulations, the Silent Disco equips groovers with wireless headphones to listen to
a mix transmitted directly to their ears and their feet.
The Big Day Out's Silent Disco will be located in a dodgem rink and fits up to 200 people at a time. A brilliant chance
to dance like a goose to music while bystanders wonder what's going on.
And finally in today's bulletin, we are pleased to announce the return of Tesla Coil Man. Last year he wowed the crowd
from his podium on the mainstage field, firing lightning bolts out of the top of his head and more. Remarkably, he seems
to have survived 2005 intact and is back to illuminate Big Day Out proceedings with even crazier arcs of electrical
madness this month. We're already charging up the generator for this one.
Bigger, better, quieter, wetter.not just another day out at Ericsson.
