Recognised internationally as one of today’s most exciting theatrical stars, Michael Crawford continues to delight audiences worldwide with his versatile performances and dynamic stage presence. Stewart & Tricia Macpherson are delighted to have wooed Mr Crawford to New Zealand for an extraordinary evening of entertainment. “Tricia and I are thrilled that Mr Crawford will perform his superb “Music of the Night” concert in the balmy late summer evening setting of the TSB Bowl of Brooklands to benefit the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy Trust,” said Mr Macpherson. Mr Crawford will perform favourites from musical theatre, the movies and a special “Phantom” segment where he will be joined by the soprano who played Christine with him in the USA. He will be accompanied by members of the Vector Wellington Orchestra, and the Ars Nova Choir.
Michael Crawford is perhaps best known for his creation of the role of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ “Phantom of the Opera”. His performances gathered unparalleled popular and critical acclaim throughout the world, and broke Box Office records.
Previous London and New York stage credits include significant roles in “Billy”, “Dance of the Vampires” and “Barnum” for which he won an Olivier Award. He also starred in ”EFX” which opened the MGM Grand Theatre in Las Vegas, in a production that was hailed as one of the greatest theatrical spectacles ever attempted.
Most recently Mr Crawford portrayed the role of Count Fosco in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest musical, “The Woman in White” in London where he was awarded ‘Outstanding Stage Performance of the Year’.
His numerous performances in both film and television include ‘Hello, Dolly!’ starring Barbra Streisand, directed by Gene Kelly; ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum’, ‘How I Won the War’ with John Lennon, and the unforgettably hilarious television series ‘Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em’.
