Zan Batman Circus Win Radio One 91fm’s High School Demo Competition ‘My Band Is Better Than Your Band’
Massive congratulations go out to Zan Batman Circus who have been declared the winners of Radio One 91FM’s inaugural ‘My Band Is Better Than Your Band’ High School Demo Competition. Their catchy as all hell track “To A Heart With No Luck” was judged as the demo with most promise and originality by Radio One’s judging panel. Being the only band to submit a track on the cassette format may have also won over some of the judges.
Hailing from Dunedin’s Kavanagh College, Zan Batman Circus comprise of Hope, Zoë, Tim and Kevin (all 17 years old). They have already played several shows around Dunedin, including December’s A Low Hum showcase and support slots for The Pukes and Gestalt Switch.
Beating out stiff competition from other high school bands and solo acts, Zan Batman Circus have won a recording session with Mr Thomas Bell at the Radio One Production Studio. To help them on their way, the track is guaranteed airplay on the Radio One airwaves plus the band will have a bio professionally written to launch them into the minds and ears of fellow b-net stations 95bfm in Auckland, Radio Active in Wellington, rdu in Christchurch, The Most in New Plymouth, and Radio Control in Palmerston North.
Radio One station boss, Lesley Paris, says ‘the demo competition has been a trip. It’s been a great way to hear what music is going on out there and the entries covered a lot of different genres and levels of development. The standard was all over place which is the nature of demos but there were fantastic tracks that made decision making tricky’. For more info contact Belinda Sharp, Promotions Manager,
