Aotea Centre to Ignite with Light this New Year’s Eve!
AUCKLAND, 5 December 2005— Aotea Centre is set to come alive on New Year’s Eve with amazing local entertainment and stunning light displays for the 6th Annual First Night celebration.
First Night Auckland 2006, a free event aimed at families, features local musicians including Breaks Co-op, Anika Moa, Nathan Haines, One Million Dollars, Dunc tha Func and Hot Grits.
“First Night is a lively and safe way for family and friends to see in the New Year in an alcohol and drug free environment. All the entertainment is indoors this year, so you can plan ahead and not worry about the weather!” says Sally Markham, Public Programmes Manager at THE EDGE.
The festivities take place on five different stages across Aotea Centre’s five levels.
“It’s going to be a fun and exciting night not to be missed. We have New Zealand’s finest musicians, bands, entertainers, dance groups and cultural performers across five different stages. There’s something for everyone,” says Ms Markham.
Staged by THE EDGE Public Programmes, First Night is part of international New Year’s Eve celebrations. First held in Auckland at the turn of the millennium, First Night® has continued to be a vibrant and inclusive celebration in the heart of the city that thousands of people enjoy every year.
First Night® is staged by over 130 cities in the USA, Canada and the UK.

Doors open at 6.30pm, Performances start at 7pm. Finishes midnight.
