Tau Rourou, Taku Rourou: a Maori Television New Year’s Eve Special
Witness the dawning of a new year with an indigenous flavour on Maori Television’s blockbuster special – TAU ROUROU, TAKU ROUROU: A MAORI TELEVISION NEW YEAR’S EVE SPECIAL – on Saturday December 31 from 10.30 PM to 12.15 PM.
The show’s theme is celebrating world indigenous cultures with the programme offering insights into other peoples’ customs and traditions including interviews with new immigrants to Aotearoa. The programme will also reflect on the past year with a review of people, places and events.
Humour is high on the agenda with a special guest appearance by one of New Zealand’s most popular comedians, Raybon Kan, as well as field items presented by Te Hamua Nikora (Ngati Porou, Ngati Kanohi, Te Whakatohea) from iwi events show, Ma Tatou.
TAU ROUROU, TAKU ROUROU producer Erina Tamepo says the New Year’s special takes it name from the well-known Maori proverb ‘Nau te rourou, naku te rourou, ka ora te manuhiri’ – your food basket and my food basket will satisfy the guests.
“Our uniquely New Zealand countdown will appeal to both Maori and non-Maori, young and old, by showcasing a wide variety of cultures such as Indian, Armenian, Afghan, Brazilian, Sudanese and Kiribati,” Tamepo says.
“We will celebrate the stories and beliefs, values and histories of indigenous peoples from throughout the world who have chosen to make their home in Aotearoa.”
