Twinings Floral Art Marquee Pick Of The Bunch For Ellerslie Flower Show Visitors
From civil unions to rare scented Orchids, a hand-knitted copper mannequin to a wedding cake decorated with pale pink
Paeonies, the unique Twinings Floral Art Marquee has undoubtedly become one of the show-stoppers of Ellerslie Flower
The Contemporary Wedding theme of the Marquee exudes international flavour and style, from the traditional Singapore
Tourism Board display of bride and groom at the altar surrounded by dozens of beautiful rare scented Singapore Orchids,
to the fragrant floral display from the Cutflower and Grower Association of Fiji.
Alongside the fusion of international flavours, the high level of participation in the Floral Art Marquee from local
Floral Art Clubs and Societies is demonstrative of the fact that these groups are back in full force at the Show.
Nancy Murphy, Chairperson for The Auckland Floral Art Council, says the involvement of floral clubs in the Show is
all-important and this year an impressive number of clubs from the Auckland area are taking part.
“The participation of floral clubs is very exciting. It is creating a flagship and a real drive for membership,” she
Damian Cooper, Ellerslie Flower Show Exhibitor Manager, says there have been 400-strong queues outside the Marquee every
day since the Show opened, with a similar number viewing the exhibit inside at all times.
“The Floral Art Marquee is obviously fantastic because Show visitors are continuing to comment that it is worth the wait
just to see even one exhibit!”
Designers Valmae Cameron and Jenny Perillo from Entwined won Gold for their innovative and ethereal Contemporary Wedding
The display uses native materials such as toi toi roots, Kiwi vine and Titirangi moss alongside calla lilies and roses.
“Contemporary art and design gave us our inspiration for the exhibit, as well as concrete and steel materials found in
Titirangi where we live,” says Valmae.
The Entwined display features a contemporary bride seated on painting tressells, with hair made of flax sourced from the
Foxton Flax Museum.
The Supreme Award for Design Excellence was awarded to the Hibiscus Floral Art Group, with a Contemporary Wedding
display characterised by copper and gold tones and delicate flowers.
And an innovative take on the Contemporary Wedding is on display at Scent’s exhibit, which depicts two grooms surrounded
by orchids and lilies and asks the question ‘Is this the next contemporary wedding?’
And if all the Floral Art starts to overwhelm you, take a break and put your feet up with a cuppa at the Twinings Tea
