The show that’s close to every parent’s heart is back in town with even more entertainment and expert speakers 12th time
around
Kiwis can expect a smorgasbord of unique and useful products, parenting tips, presentations, competitions and
entertainment at the 2005 ASG Parent and Child Show being held from 28-30 October at the Auckland Showgrounds.
Now in its 12th year, event organiser Dona White says the show continues to increase in popularity annually, with nearly
250 local and international exhibitors on board for 2005.
“Each year we aim to showcase an exciting array of products, services, support groups and information sources to help
parents in their most important role. Everything they could possibly imagine is on display, from antenatal and baby
products to children’s and maternity clothing, toys and equipment, healthcare providers and parent support
organisations.
“We’re thrilled to have an expert line-up of speakers at this year’s show covering a range of topics that will benefit
all parents – from dealing with whining, temper tantrums and bedtime challenges to toilet training, travelling with
young Kids and more serious issues such as infant CPR,”says Ms White. (See speaker summary below.)
The 2005 show promises plenty of entertainment for parents and children alike. As a special treat for kids, for the
first time ever Bob the Builder will be making daily appearances at the Auckland Parent and Child Show at 11am, 12pm and
1pm. Little ones will be battling it out for the annual crawling Grand Prix title, plus there will be charity photo
shoots for children, massages for babies, storytelling, singing and lots of dancing.

Line-up of presenters include:
Lisa Cork – Veteran traveller, mum and author. After travelling with her son since he was eight weeks old, Lisa was
inspired to write a book - Baby Travel. Toddler Travel - offering tips for parents to challenge the commonly held belief
that it is too difficult to travel with young children. In her informative seminar at the Parent and Child Show, Lisa
will dispel this myth and will present five compelling reasons why parents should travel with children under the age of
two.
Steven Hayns – Psychologist and CEO of Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme). Steven plays a vital role at the NZ
Parenting Council, addressing the more difficult issues that come with parenting. At the show he will be discussing
topics such as toilet training, bedtime challenges, whining and tantrums, encouraging desirable behaviour and managing
misbehaviour.
Jenny Hale and Mark Madden-Snoad – From the Toolbox Parenting Group. Jenny and Mark’s seminar topic is the importance of
‘Becoming the parent you have always wanted to be’, giving parents the practical tools to equip and empower them when
they are feeling the daily pressures.
Greg Cochrane –Having survived polio as a child, primary school teacher Greg Cochrane draws from his own experience of
how quality time and having fun with parents is critical for the first few years of a child’s life. Speaking on behalf
of the Immunisation Advisory Centre, Greg shares a compelling and inspiring story at the 2005 show.
Howard Small –Teacher and Author of My Attitude is Everything. Howard’s fun and innovative seminar at the Parent and
Child Show, ‘Instant Parenting Success with Health, Happiness and Humour’, will leave parents with valuable insight
about creating harmony in the household and how to use the fridge as a learning centre.
Glen Balneaves – St John’s charitable organisation. While many parents believe that it will never happen to them,
occasionally some are proven wrong when it comes to their child having an accident. Glen will provide a detailed
demonstration on how to save a child’s life with CPR and dealing with choking babies.
Dr Allen Liang –President of Asthma New Zealand and a Senior Pediatric Asthma Consultant. Dr Liang will discuss the
asthma scene in New Zealand from diagnostic to prevention.
Erin Bremford –Plunket nurse and lactation consultant. Erin will be sharing her expert advice and tips on the hot topic
of breast feeding. She will also examine correct positioning and latching techniques to help mother and child.
