Auckland Philharmonia trumpets APN as new major sponsor
APN News & Media is the new naming rights sponsor of the Auckland Philharmonia’s flagship Premier Series.
A multi-faceted media company with interests in publishing, radio and outdoor advertising, APN News & Media has committed to a three-year sponsorship of the 12-concert series, beginning in 2006.
APN Chief Executive Brendan Hopkins says both organisations share many values.
“The orchestra has a reputation for quality and attention to detail, which are two key qualities that are central to how
APN approaches its businesses to set us apart from our peers.
“Through our media interests we have a long and close relationship with the Auckland community and our strong brands
such as The New Zealand Herald, Herald on Sunday, The Aucklander, Newstalk ZB, Look Outdoor and The Listener interact
with most Aucklanders every week.
“The APN News & Media Premier Series 2006 will continue to deliver high quality levels of entertainment. We are extremely proud to be
associated with this fine asset of the arts in Auckland.”
The Premier Series is a highlight of New Zealand’s arts calendar attracting the highest calibre of international
conductors and soloists, has a wide subscriber base, and the concerts regularly sell-out.
In 2006 the APN News & Media Premier Series concerts are in the Town Hall. The Aotea Centre concerts, which were previously part of the
Premier Series, become independent and will be known as the Vero concerts.
Auckland Philharmonia General Manager Anne Rodda says the move has created space for another major sponsor to come on
board.
“We have come a long way thanks to the support of many organisations such as Vero and we sincerely thank them for their
support. We are delighted they see the value in their association with our wonderful orchestra and are continuing to
support us in 2006 and beyond.”
APN News & Media is one of the region’s most broadly-based and successful media companies. APN publishes New Zealand's leading
metropolitan newspaper, The New Zealand Herald, and is the largest operator of regional newspapers, radio broadcasting
and outdoor advertising in Australasia.
The Auckland Philharmonia receives major funding from Creative New Zealand and major grants from Auckland City and the
ASB Charitable Trust.
