Antonia Marino - "I can move mountains..."
November 8-25. In this solo exhibition primarily sponsored by “Creative Communities”, Antonia will showcase a selection
of mountain-related works. Featuring 30 artworks, an interactive art installation, a working model of her studio & artist in residence, Antonia attempts to uncomplicate the landscape to expose their simple underlying forms by using
different contemporary, representational & abstract styles. This is an accumulation of work completed during 2005, drawing on inspiration from her imagination,
nature, the Mt Tarawera eruption of 1886 & work by artist C. McCahon. Venue: Papakura Art Gallery, 10 Averill St, Papakura. Ph 297-7510. Opening celebration

“I can move mountains…” is a solo exhibition of artworks by local artist Antonia Marino, which is being held at the
Papakura Art Gallery from 8th - 25th November and is principally sponsored by "Creative Communities". Approximately 30
artworks will be on display during the 3 week exhibition, along with a large artistic installation and a full scale
working model of her art studio. An opening function will be held on Tuesday 8th from 5.30 - 7.30pm. All welcome, free
entry.
Antonia has been concentrating on land forms this year and her exhibition will showcase a selection of mountain-scapes
of various styles, techniques, medium and sizes. During the year Antonia has become captivated by the timeless endurance
of the land, whether it is a lonely hill or a majestic mountain. Through her artwork she attempts to uncomplicate the
landscape to expose their simple underlying forms. Drawing inspiration from her imagination, nature, the Mt Tarawera
eruption of 1886 & work by artist C. McCahon, Antonia's work will be a selection of contemporary, representational & semi-abstract styles.
Based on the “I can move mountains” theme Antonia will be constructing her version of a popular logic puzzle - called
"End of the world puzzle" - into an over-sized artistic installation made from wood & stone forms. Visitors to the gallery will get the opportunity to try and solve the puzzle by actually moving the
mountains! They can also enter a free competition to win a painting by Antonia. Also on display will be a full scale
working model of her art studio and Antonia plans to continue working there as ‘Artist in residence’ so everyone is
welcome to pop in for a chat. Local communty & school groups will also be invited to come and visit Antonia at the gallery.
