Hip Hop Summit Hits New Heights
New Zealand’s premier Hip Hop event, the Boost Mobile Aotearoa Hip Hop Summit, rocks Aotea Square and the Auckland Town Hall, THE EDGE® this Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October, 2005.
A free public event that embraces the "four elements" of Hip Hop - MCing (rapping) DJing, breaking (breakdancing) and graf art, this year's Summit celebrates the best emerging and established talent in the Aotearoa hip hop scene.
Top billing artists Che Fu, Fast Crew, Nesian Mystic and Frontline are part of the lineup. Female voices are a highlight of the programme as well as first class DJing, MCing, Graf Art and breakdancing demos, panel discussions and workshops.
"THE EDGE® is proud to demystify hip hop culture and look at what distinguishes Kiwi Hip Hop from the rest of the world. As with previous Summits, positive impacts that Kiwi rappers
are making shine through: they are empowering youth and engaging fully with them through the four elements. Their lyrics resonate with their experiences in the widest possible sense. It's the power of music to enable a social-cultural-creative change", says THE EDGE® Public Programmes Manager Sally Markham.
For the second year running, Boost Mobile is supporting NZ's premier Hip Hop event, the Boost Mobile Aotearoa Hip Hop Summit 2005. "We are fully committed to supporting NZ youth and developing local music. It is important that free community events like the Summit continue and integral to that is support from sponsors. There is a natural synergy with our own business of hooking people up, giving them a voice and allowing them to express themselves freely," says Boost Mobile Marketing Manager Raelene Castle.
Full programme and venue details are available from: www.boostmobile.co.nz or www.disruptiv.com/summit
Entry to this year's Friday and Saturday night gigs is at no charge. Free tickets can be collected only from Ticketek Aotea Centre Box Office, Auckland, between working hours.
The Boost Mobile Aotearoa Hip Hop Summit 2005 is presented by THE EDGE® Public Programmes and DISRUPTIV. Boost Mobile is the Platinum Sponsor. Media partners are C4 Music Television, Flava FM, and Base FM.
