Women in Film & Television Wellington special movie night
WIFT Wellington is holding a fundraiser screening of In Her Shoes at The Embassy on Monday, 10th October. This will be a
fun evening, with refreshments, great spot prizes and raffle prizes to be won, such as Minx shoes, Redken products and a
night for two at Brackenridge Country Retreat.
Members of the public are welcome to join film and television industry leaders for the evening. Tickets are $35 from The
Embassy box office. This is the NZ premiere of the film, and the only time it will be seen on the giant Embassy screen.
In Her Shoes is directed by Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys and 8 Mile), produced by Ridley Scott (Alien,
Blade Runner and Thelma and Louise) and written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), based on the bestselling novel by
Jennifer Weiner. It stars Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine.
Hilarious and heartrending, In Her Shoes is the story of two sisters with nothing in common but size 8½ feet. After a
calamitous falling out, they travel the bumpy road toward a true appreciation for one another – aided along the way by
the grandmother they never knew they had.
The money raised will provide a scholarship to support one young woman with the potential to make a significant
contribution to the New Zealand screen production industry. It provides $1000 towards tuition fees at The Film School
and a one year WIFT membership.
Robin Laing, a founding member of WIFT Wellington, is not only a role model for young women film-makers, but one of New
Zealand’s most successful producers. She has produced or executive produced 10 feature films, including Mr Wrong and
Perfect Strangers. Robin Laing, along with representatives of WIFT's Management Committee, is involved in selecting the
Scholarship Recipient each year.
WIFT Wellington is an organisation which aims to recognise and support women in the film and television industries, and
provide an informal network for helping each other in our careers.
