Election Night Excitement For South Island Lotto Players
Election night has been one to remember for two Lotto players, who bought their tickets in Christchurch and Gore, because they have each won First Division in Saturday's draw, says New Zealand Lotteries Commission (NZ Lotteries) Chief Executive Trevor Hall.
"Lotto players throughout the South Island better check their tickets as one of these two prizes, and several other big mainland wins from the weekend, are still to be claimed," he says.
"It's been a big night for the whole of New Zealand, but it's time for our players to open up their purses, go through their wallets and get those tickets down to the nearest Lotto shop to be checked. They could be sitting on a big win and not even realise it," says Mr Hall.
The First Division winning tickets bought at Gore New World and Fresh Choice Barrington, in Christchurch, and will net their owners $500,000 each.
Store owner Leureen Pedersen from Gore New World says the winner claimed their prize early on Sunday morning.
"The winner is a regular customer of ours, and very deserving, they were surprisingly calm at first. After filling out the official prize claim form they were starting to get really excited as it sunk in."
Devon Bishop from Fresh Choice Barrington says staff are buzzing after hearing of the big win.
"We hope it's gone to a regular customer. Lots of people are still checking their tickets later than usual as they were busy watching the election last night, I think," says Ms Bishop.
Another big prize that went to the South Island was $48,667, won on a ticket sold by Countdown Dunedin. This player won $32,575 in Powerball Second Division and $16,092 in Lotto Second Division.
There'll be more smiles on faces in the South Island too, with seven other Lotto tickets bought in Blenheim, Christchurch, Dunedin, Greymouth, and Timaru, each winning Lotto Second Division prizes of $16,092 in the election night draw.
The other stores that sold Second Division winning tickets worth $16,092 were:
-Countdown Blenheim.
-Countdown Church Corner and Countdown Northlands Lotto Kiosk in Christchurch.
-Roslyn Fresh Choice, and Mornington Lotto & Post in Dunedin.
-Timaru New World.
-Fresh Choice Greymouth.
Powerball Division One was not won and has now jackpotted to an estimated $1.5 million.
