LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa are pleased to confirm that the rumours are true.
Building on the tremendous success of last year’s collaborative event, Fly My Pretties is returning with a new line-up, and a new flock of tunes to set you free. The result will be a new CD album and DVD, out in early November.
Last year Fly My Pretties featured The Black Seeds front man Barnaby Weir, and an all-star line up of Wellington musicians. It was staged, filmed and recorded over five nights at Wellington’s Bats Theatre, and grew to become the biggest event in the LOOP calendar. The conceptbased live-show was Bats’ most attended event of 2004, and the album has become one of LOOP’s most successful releases to date.
Recently, Fly My Pretties was nominated for six B-net NZ Music award nominations (receiving Best Pop Album), achieved gold-status, and is being released in the UK. A Fly My Pretties 12” including hits like “Let’s Roll” is about to be released in New Zealand. In another exciting development, a new Fly My Pretties incarnation recently performed a fourshow season at The Leigh Sawmill Café to full houses. The line-up included familiar faces, as well as the addition of heavy dropping beats from the Black Seeds’ Jarney Murphy, genius piano solos from electronic musician Jeremiah Ross (aka Module), and the smooth smoky vocals of Hollie Smith.
In Fly My Pretties 2, Barnaby Weir will once again take the stage with a new who’s who of local kiwi talent to perform, record, and film a season of live performances, which will then be released on a new album and DVD. Building on last year’s efforts, Fly My Pretties 2 is going to be performed and recorded in both Wellington and Auckland in late September. In conjunction with the music Nektar provide a live visual installation with visuals from the NZ Film Archive. The confirmed event schedule is as follows:
