Pacific designers collaborate at the Auckland Home Show
The Auckland Home Show will have an eclectic Pacific flavour this year at the Auckland Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland,
14 – 18 September 2005.
The Pacific Arts Development Centre is showcasing five Pacific designers who will present authentic, high quality
Pacific designs and artworks. The organisation has entered into a joint promotion with the NZ Herald, and Pacific
artwork can be viewed at the entranceway of the Auckland Home Show in the NZ Herald stand.
The five designers reflect the range of heritage and contemporary art forms and different Pacific Island groups that
reside in the Auckland region. Tahitian/Fijian/kiwi furniture designer- Fletcher Vaughan, Cook Islands tivaevae (textile
art) designer- Mary Ama, Niuean weaver- Matafetu Smith, Samoan/Danish contemporary visual artist – Sheyne Tuffery and
Tongan tapa designer/ architect Tomui Kaloni.
Artists will be available to answer questions at various times during the Home Show. “People want to know the origins of
traditional Pacific art forms, and they will have the opportunity of asking the artists themselves. Each artwork will
have a certificate of authenticity and a catalogue is available for customers” says Ms Carter.
The Pacific Arts Development Centre is focused on supporting creative arts enterprise. The organisation is funded by
AREDS, Manukau City Council and NZ Trade and Enterprise.
