They will share their experiences as members of the Bioethics Council as the Council undertakes its brief of engaging widely with the public on the complex ethical issues of the rapidly evolving biotechnology sector.

“The Bioethics Council Dialogues with the Public”
Dr Helen Bichan and Professor Chris Cunningham
Dr Helen Bichan is a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications in psychological medicine and in public health. She has considerable experience in the health services, most recently with community participation in the area of public health. She is a founding member of the Bioethics Council.
Chris Cunningham is Professor of Maori Health at Massey University, and Director of the Research Centre for Maori Health & Development. He is a member of a number of committees and Boards concerned with health, including the Hutt Valley DHB, Quit Group, Hepatitis Foundation, NZ Cancer Control Trust and NZ Drug Foundation. Chris has been a member of the Bioethics Council since 2004. He is currently supervising a doctoral student investigating Maori perceptions of Genetic Biotechnologies.
