Upcoming Exhibitions At City Gallery Wellington
It's a celebration of New Zealand art at City Gallery Wellington for the rest of 2005. Following on from the
extraordinarily popular survey exhibition 'Small World, Big Town: Contemporary Art from Te Papa', City Gallery
Wellington is proud to announce four exhibitions that will bring focused attention to the work of New Zealand artists:

Jane Pountney - Wade in the Water
A tribute to one of Wellington's foremost landscape artists of recent decades, this exhibition brings together a number
of Pountney's key paintings, moving from the operatic intensity of her large canvases of the 1980s and early 1990s to
the smaller and more intimate beach paintings of recent years, when Pountney became entranced by figures she observed on
the beach at Eastbourne, Wellington.
Jeffrey Harris Described by one critic as a collection of work that "roars like the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion", this
survey exhibition is a testament to a lifelong journey - an autobiography in paint - by an outstanding New Zealand
painter. The exhibition highlights major themes and key moments from Jeffrey Harris's 30 year career, ranging from
razor-sharp etchings to jewel-like "icons", from sumptuous triptychs to a group of unflinching recent self-portraits.
Gretchen Albrecht: Returning
In 1981, Gretchen Albrecht produced the first of the works that she has since become renowned for - colour-saturated
shaped canvases, paintings that sing and glow and smoulder. This exhibition tracks the development of Albrecht's
signature style since that time, and underlines her position as one of our leading abstract painters.
Yuk King Tan - States of
Yuk King Tan is one of New Zealand's most acclaimed young artists, noted for her inventive practice that ranges across
photography, sculpture, installation and video. Tan's site-specific installation, developed especially for City Gallery
Wellington, will build on her past work and draw on her experience of shifting her home base to Hong Kong earlier this
year.
