Lock Up Your Husbands; The Bitches Are Back In Town!
Following 2004’s sell out season, Silo Theatre’s unprecedented success THE WOMEN, returns to the big stage in Wellington
and Auckland.
"…the women is as dry and sophisticated as a good martini, and just as potent" - NZ Herald, October, 2004
Katie Wolfe (Shortland Street) directs ex-Street starlets - Anna Hutchinson, Hannah Tolich and Sally Stockwell in this
fast-paced satire written by New York socialite and Vanity Fair editor - Clare Booth Luce. Set in wholly female domains
– fashion houses, beauty parlours, powder rooms, even by the pool in Barbados – we meet the ladies who lunch … on each
other. Exposed is the dark, hairy underbelly of a society, which promises glamour, glitter and fame.
Originally staged in 1936 in New York City THE WOMEN is best known today for George Cukor’s classic 1940’s film starring
Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell. The stage-play was revived in 2000 with an all-star cast including Jennifer Tilly
and Sex and the City’s own Cynthia Nixon. With characters that demand only the finest in couture the Silo production
will feature designs from top NZ labels including - Zambesi, Liz Mitchell, Trelise Cooper and State of Grace.
The Silo continues its staggering growth and development leaving no doubt that it is a major force in New Zealand
theatre. Under the exceptional leadership of Silo director - Shane Bosher, this is the second Silo production to tour to
Wellington in a 3-month period. The return Auckland season of THE WOMEN also marks the first time that a production
moves out of its boutique city accommodations to The Concert Chamber to house a larger audience.
So move over Desperate Housewives, Sex in the City, Dynasty and Knots Landing … the original has returned - hissing,
gossiping and backstabbing in true diva style!
