ONEFEST 2005
Onefest is an annual four-night showcase of the finest established and emerging musical talent from around New Zealand, offered free of charge to all holders of the amazing Radio One Onecard. Every year, dedicated scouts from Radio One scour the country for fresh, under-appreciated, and just plain talented artists to make up the Onefest roster. Onefest gives Dunedinites a chance to be in on the ground floor – to see tomorrow’s local superstars, who might not otherwise tour Dunedin at this early stage in their careers. In the past, Onefest has featured artists like Scribe and the Phoenix Foundation, who were up-and-comers at the time but are now household names. This August, get ready to abandon your reality TV and your two-bar heater, because there’s no better reason to get off the couch and get out amongst it than Onefest, free with your 2005 Onecard.
Admission to all Onefest events is free with your Radio One 2005 Onecard
Radio One is proud to announce the following acts for Onefest 2005:
The Checks
Auckland’s Checks are an internationally lauded retro-rock quartet whose musical and technical sophistication belie the fact that they’re barely out of high school. Radio One are proud to present The Checks playing their first ever Dunedin show, sure to be a memorable night at the Crown.
Cherry
Badass bubblegum Wellingtonians Cherry are in town to showcase their own deceptively sweet brand of dirty rock’n’roll raucousness.
DJ Canadia
Radio One’s technical whizkid busts out nerd-style, yo.
P Bass Expressway
P Bass Expressway’s super-sly disco-funk has found its way into the hearts and booties of Radio One listeners, so expect an eager funk-hungry audience for this display of live grooves. P Bass Expressway members Soul Providah and Mr White will also be digging into the crates for DJ sets on the night.
State of Mind
State of Mind are an Auckland drum’n’bass duo set on blazing a path to global recognition, and they don’t care how many dancefloors they have to burn on the way. With upcoming releases on Bad Company recordings, as well as Total Science’s C.I.A. Recordings label, this is Dunedin’s chance to catch State of Mind in the early stages of what is sure to be a meteoric career.
Subz’n’Breakz Kru
Radio One's elite drum'n'bass division are authorised to deploy the freshest cuts in their armoury with extreme prejudice.
Frontline
Con-Psy and DJ 41 make up what P-Money calls "The most important rap group in NZ. Period." With Con-Psy (a former winner of the MC Battle for Supremacy) on the mic and 41 (a former ITF champion) supplying super-slick beats, Frontline are set to rock Bath Street to the foundations.
DJ Shan
DJ Shan is Dunedin's very own godfather of hip-hop, the instigator of Radio One's Real Bro hip-hop show and the force behind Bath St's fundamental Thursday hip-hop nights.
DJ Fracture
Radio One's resident pranksta DJ Fracture sets up the clinic at Bath St, playing the nicest hip-hop just for y'all.
The Dead C
The Dead C are an iconic Dunedin noise trio, who Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth memorably called "the most interesting band in the world". This is a tremendously exciting opportunity to see a legendary group dish up the murky deconstructed rock that has made them revered around the world.
The Reduction Agents
bNet darlings the Reduction Agents are bringing their sassy Lil' Chief indie-pop stylings to Dunedin for the first time. Featuring members of the Brunettes, Gasoline Cowboy and the Heavy Jones Trio, the Reduction Agents are a real NZ indie supergroup.
Pumice
Recently returned from a residency in Vienna and an extensive European tour, Stefan Neville's one man band show Pumice is welcomed back to Onefest with open arms. Those who saw him last time will be lining up for seconds, those who didn't can now stop kicking themselves.
DJ Duckling
A mild-mannered librarian by day, night time sees DJ Ducking morph into the fabulous queen of Dunedin electro-rock, loved by the fashionista and the rock kids alike.
