Sit Back And Relax – Static Sounds Good
The microphones are on, the turntables are spinning, and the tunes are pumping as Auckland’s prime student radio
station, Static 88.1FM, prepares to re-launch for 2005.
Static 88.1FM is Auckland University of Technology’s radio station and plays laidback, downbeat tunes including dub,
roots, jazz and mellow electronica.
The station’s launch is being celebrated with a party featuring a host of fresh musical acts on August 6th, at
Auckland’s Coast Bar.
Static 88.1FM is aimed at inner city apartment dwellers, young professionals and students.
“It’s perfect to sit down and listen to while you’re having a beer with mates, to play in a café, or to have on while
you’re at work,” says Static manager Rogan Polkinghorne.
Seventeen A.U.T radio students, who are in their final year of the Bachelor of Communications Studies degree, are
responsible for all aspects of running the station.
“We have a lot of listeners who enjoy Static’s style - there’s nothing quite like it in the market. It’s great to be
providing something different for Auckland,” said Polkinghorne.
Static has the most sought after low-powered frequency in the city, with the signal reaching from Ponsonby to Parnell,
and from K Road to the Viaduct.
Static 88.1FM is available to listeners outside Auckland’s CBD, with dial-up and high speed web streams at
www.static.co.nz, making it available for listeners worldwide.
